Memory, Thought, Steadfast Gaze, Observation

Memory, Thought, Steadfast Gaze, Observation — these are the attributes of Ta’aroa, to whom I pledge a commitment to continuing remembrance — a constant reminder that even from a void of darkness, life bursts forth to create oceans and earth, sky and rock — worlds are born from a word — one utterance into the silence, and it all begins. Life forms, elements align, beings respond, and the creation emerges…

The Ta’aroa creation myth defines the creative process at its core, and continues to be the primary reference point to which I return time and time again in the constant quest for the defining moment. In memory lives the shadow of a thought, the reminder of a gaze, astute instances of observation that bring me back to the essence of meaning-making.

About Nicola Marae Allain

I was born in England to a half-Tahitian mother, and am a dual citizen of the United States and France. I have called England, Tahiti, The Bahamas, Texas, California and Canada home, and now live in Saratoga Springs, NY. I live my life within a global, cross-cultural, multilingual perspective -- which makes things interesting. I have a wide range of professional and personal interests. I am most intrigued by the essential questions of life, perhaps best expressed by Paul Gauguin in his masterpiece D'où venons Nous? Que sommes nous? Où allons nous? ( Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?).
